The Onward Brother Story
onward brother: a journey back to adventure
The story of Onward Brother is an outworking of my own journey of finding my way back to the wild & adventure after years of losing touch with myself from the buzzsaw of life and loss.
I grew up feeling like my true home was in the wild - as a kid, I'd track summer storms at night in Arkansas and sneak out to the woods in the back to "be" a part of nature along with the tree frogs; riding out the storm in the dark. There were pack-in canoe trips on the Buffalo, trout fishing on the White River, rough camping on bluffs in the woods, even wilderness survival camps in Montana, and so many more adventures.
But, after jumping headlong into a career and family after college, then eventually experiencing some bitter financial and family losses, I looked up a few years ago and didn't recognize myself in any area. I felt like I couldn't access hope for my grand plans anymore and felt detached and without a home base internally. After the loss of community and a move driven by the fallout of the Covid pandemic, I realized just how disconnected I was from peace, nature and and any kind of adventure.
I embarked on a total start over in life to re-find my true, whole self and define what success in this life actually looks (and feels) like.
To cap off that part of my life journey, I had the privilege to go on an epic trip to climb Mt. Sinai in Saudi Arabia and following Moses' trail in Jordan. As I sat on top of the peak after pushing myself further than I thought I could, I felt a strong inspiration to make sure 1. this "trip of a lifetime" would be just the beginning of a lifestyle of those and 2. to create something that can inspire as many people as I can to get on to the adventure of life along with me on my journey. So, gear up and let's go!
The mission & vision: from hats to adventure
The mission of Onward Brother is to equip men on the journey of adventure. The action of adventure and having an unshakable mindset of hope go hand in hand. The vision of Onward Brother is to inspire both. Thank you for joining on this journey!
